Introduction

On July 3, 1946, a small group of dedicated theatre lovers began a legacy of volunteerism, philanthropy, and live theatre. From its first days in the Lindell Hotel – to our current home in a theatre that opened on February 4, 1972 – the heart and soul of the Lincoln Community Playhouse has been the magic of its creative and dedicated volunteers, and the spirit of its enthusiastic and generous patrons.

As we look to the future, we face the challenge of securing financial stability. In an increasingly competitive artistic community, our ticket sales generate only 40% of our annual revenue. Live theatre is the most expensive of all artistic ventures.

Our business is show business. We provide the shows. You provide the business. You also provide the firm foundation upon which community theatre is built ... not only in Lincoln, Nebraska, but throughout this country. We love what we do, but our patrons, our volunteers, and our donors make it possible.

After six decades of community theatre and six decades of community support ... we have learned one thing. The Lincoln Community Playhouse cannot survive without the time, the talents, and the financial assistance of our patrons, our volunteers, and our donors.

We are grateful for this legacy and we are challenged to sustain it. We cannot do it without you.
