Introduction

The mission of LCP includes providing a variety of opportunities for education regarding the theatre. Our Director of Family Theatre & Outreach coordinates Theatre Arts for Youth (TAFY), the Theatre Arts Academy (TAA), and numerous outreach activities in conjunction with community schools and organizations.

TAFYis dedicated to supporting a process-oriented approach to the practice, refinement, and appreciation of theatrical arts. We seek to nurture the whole child, by conducting activities that develop each student’s freedom of creative expression.

Imagination, collaboration, problem solving, and team building are the essence of our curriculum. We explore creative processes that include and transcend performance, and may be applied throughout life. Our classes are structured to accentuate each student’s inventive and expressive spirit, while ensuring the collaborative and social nature of theatre arts.

TAA was originally designed for the serious theatre student (age 10-15) and was a two-week summer course based on the audition process. It has evolved into a year-round program coinciding with the Lincoln Public School's calendar. We now include ages 7-18. The academies are set up so that the participants receive instruction in acting, movement, singing, and other forms appropriate for the show that has been selected.

It is our intent to make TAFY & TAA accessible to everyone. In some cases, a student may require a scholarship because the family is low-income. In other cases, a student may require a scholarship because multiple siblings are participating in TAFY/TAA.

Scholarships are provided on a partial basis. Any student may request a form for the Scholarship Fund at the time of registration. The deadline for submitting that form is one week before the start of the first class. Students must write a brief paragraph explaining why they want to take the TAFY/TAA class and why they need a scholarship. Applications are reviewed by the Director of Education.
